Creek Wood’s Daniel Lands Football Spot at Dickson County

Former Creek Wood head coach Chuck Daniel has accepted an assistant football coaching position (as well as a teaching position) at his alma mater, Dickson County High School.

“Chuck will be coaching our quarterbacks, punters, and kickers”, said Head Coach Randy Murphree. We are really excited to get Chuck on the football staff at DCHS. He brings a lot of experience and passion for the game to our staff. It’s a big hire for DCHS football.”

Being at Dickson County High School is nothing new for Daniel. He was a quarterback, punter, and kicker for the Cougars back in the mid-80’s.

FAMILY TRADITION
Daniel grew up around the program. His father, Charlie Daniel, was a legendary coach at Dickson County High School for years. The elder Daniel not only coached some of the best teams in school history, but some of the best teams in Tennessee during his tenure.

Charlie was a 3-sport star in high school (Charlotte High School) and college (Middle Tennessee State). He played tight end and defensive end at the collegiate level before being drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs, but instead of football he decided on baseball, playing in the minor league system for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

LIKE FATHER LIKE SON
DCHS '86
Chuck followed in his father’s footsteps while at Dickson County High School. He excelled in football, baseball, and basketball. He earned All-District honors in baseball and football and All-Midstate honors as a punter and quarterback during his senior year.

MTSU '90
Like his father, Chuck took his talents to Middle Tennessee State. As a punter, Daniel was a 4-year starter, 3 time All-OVC first team, and 2 time All-American. In 1992 he was invited to the Atlanta Falcons training camp.

Now Daniel is back where it all started. “I am excited about going to coach and teach at my alma mater,” said Daniel. “It is very tough to leave a special place with special people like Creek Wood High School, but after 15 years I felt this was just the best move for me.”
