Where Are They Now - IV

*This story has been updated since originally published.

In the WHERE ARE THEY NOW series, the goal was to list every player and coach that fit into a category. Several coaches and athletic departments at each school were contacted to get all the names possible. Unfortunately, some coaches and players were omitted from the series. If you recognize that someone has been left out of the series, please contact Dickson Sports Media on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram and names will be added as needed.

Part 4: The Coaches Edition
“A good coach improves your game. A great coach improves your life.” Michael Josephson.

In Part 4 of the Where Are They Now series, the focus shifts to the men and women that are responsible for coaching the excellent athletes that we watch on the fields and courts across the county.

The vast majority are also classroom instructors and most (if not all) are former athletes. All of the coaches are currently active in coaching at one of our middle schools (Burns, Charlotte, Dickson, or William James) or one of our high schools (Creek Wood or Dickson County) and all graduated from either Dickson County or Creek Wood.

Most people only see coaches during an actual game, or perhaps an occasional practice, but these people spend untold hours behind the scenes in meetings, research, scouting, dealing with the media, various logistical issues, and the list goes on and on. And contrary to popular belief, ESPECIALLY at this level of competition, it’s not all about wins and losses.

So why do it? Why coach? Who better to answer that question than four of our very own, Erin Webb, Nancy Jackson, Rodney Parker, and Chuck Daniel.

Erin Webb
I love seeing my athletes realize their potential. Helping them realize that the results they see are related to how much time and effort they put in.

The athletes I have had become part of my family and I love getting to watch them grow and learn and become amazing women. To be a part of that growth process is more rewarding than any kind of recognition or trophy. We learn basketball, we win and lose together, but it’s so much more than that. We learn to love each other and lean on each other. I coach for my kids.

Nancy Jackson
Coaching, like all things, has its ups and downs. Often we are asked "why coach?" My answer is usually, "I just love the game."

I have been around the game of softball for almost 40 years. I still look forward to being back on the field each spring. The process of a group working to accomplish an end goal is an amazing thing to watch evolve. Teammates become 'a family' in a short time. The accomplishments and disappointments enable the team to create not only the cherished memories but also the skills to go out into the world prepared for some of the trials and tribulations that life brings. I choose to coach because I just love the game.

Rodney O. Parker
For the love of the game! Coaching gives me the opportunity to love, influence, challenge, engage, encourage, inspire, mold, work together, and develop relationships with our future leaders.

I enjoy having the opportunity to watch student-athletes handle success and adversity, and learn the personal discipline and positive work ethic needed to be successful in life! I encourage student-athletes to set goals and work hard towards reaching those goals. Be positive and productive!

Chuck Daniel
I want to give back the same impact my coaches/teachers had on me as a youth/player.
