The Creek Wood softball team saw a record-setting season come to an end with a 2-0 loss to White House-Heritage at the 2018 Spring Fling State Tournament.

After an opening round win (11-4) against Sweetwater, the Lady Red Hawks fell to Gibbs (9-8) and Heritage, ending a season that saw a record 38 wins for the program.

ONE and ONLY ONE

The 2018 version of Creek Wood softball featured one senior, Bailey Griffith. On one hand that bodes well for the future. On the other hand, Griffith will be a significant loss. She pitched and hit her way to becoming the only player to play in three state tournaments. How much of a loss? Check out these numbers:
Bailey Griffith
  • 59 career pitching wins.
  • 637 career strike outs.
  • 1.89 career ERA.
  • 3 perfect games in 2018. PERFECT!
  • .331 career batting average.
  • 3 Region Championships.
  • 2017 All-District. 2017 All-State. 2018 District Most Valuable Pitcher.
FIVE
If all remains the same, the 2019 Lady Red Hawks will feature five seniors, including Analeigh Coursey, Sam England, Alex Edwards, Sam Morgan, and Madison Woodard.

This star-studded group can play. They did their part to smash a single-season school record 46 home runs (the old record was 32).

Sam Morgan
Coursey, a swift-footed infielder, tied a state tournament record with five hits in a single game. A year earlier Coursey set the single-season record for triples with six. Coursey also set the team record for most walks in a season. Sam Morgan, a feared hitter,  joined Coursey in the state record books the next day with five hits, including two home runs, in a single game.

Analeigh Coursey
Woodard, a tough, gritty catcher, came into her own at the plate in 2018, nailing home runs and key hits throughout the season. Hard-hitting outfielder Sam England missed the state tourney with an injury.

2020
Next years seniors aren't the only bright spot. The class of 2020 features a solid first baseman in Lillie Boydston (only one error in 54 games), shortstop Jase Jackson, outfielder Kensli Douthit, and Lennon Spicer, a hard hitting (lead team with 11 home runs) and hard throwing pitcher (16 wins). Rounding out the class is Madeline Kilpatrick, Layne Myatt, Madison Dillehay, and Alexis Gibbs.

Jackson set the single-season record in 2018 for doubles with 20, while sporting an absolute gun in the middle of the infield. Douthit set the single-season mark for RBI's with 59.

Two sophomore's to be, Jaylee Howard and Madelyn Pullum, round out the roster. Pullum brings a ton of potential to the field. Howard emerged as a defensive stand out this season after taking over in center field.

The 2019 season can't get here soon enough.
