Traditional basketball powerhouse Mt. Juliet made a visit to Dickson on Monday night and walked into an electric atmosphere in the Dragons Den.
On the girls side, Dickson came away with a 45-24 win, while the boys fell in a comeback effort, 51-39.
The Lady Dragons fell behind in the first quarter but slowly managed to grab and hold on to the lead heading into the fourth, 28-20. That's when Dickson caught fire and exploded for a 17-4 fourth quarter advantage. Guard Kendal Bryant tossed in a game-high 12 points to lead Dickson. Amy Elliott added 8 followed by Karleigh Stevenson with 6.
In the boys game, Dickson fell behind 20-13 at the half, but rallied back with an explosive third quarter led by Chanx Martin.
Martin tossed in 14 of his game-high 20 points as the Dragons fought back
to take a 33-27 lead. That seemed to be the wake up call that Mt. Juliet needed. The Bears got hot on both ends of the court and outscored Dickson in the final quarter, 24-6, to escape with the win. For the Dragons, J.T. Brooks scored 8 and Josh Cope added 5.
Dickson returns to action on Thursday with a road trip to Heritage.
