Creek Wood Takes Two at Stewart County

Creek Wood traveled to Stewart County to open district play and came away with two wins on a cold Tuesday that saw several mid-state schools postpone games.

Lady Red Hawks 41 - Stewart County 39
Creek Wood ended a two game losing skid with a tough 41-39 road win at Stewart County. Creek Wood built an 8-point in the second quarter and again in the third, but could never pull completely away from the Lady Rebels.

Stewart County was able to tie the game at 37-37 with 5:17 remaining in the fourth quarter before taking a 39-37 lead minutes later. Creek Wood's last field came late in the third quarter, but key free throws and a huge steal sealed the win for the Lady Red Hawks.

Bri Burgess sank two free throws with 1:03 left on the clock to tie the game at 39-39. Allie Burgess then came up with a steal on Stewart County's next possession and a foul sent B. Burgess back to the line for a one-and-one with 10-seconds remaining. Burgess missed the first attempt but senior Reagan Taylor came down with a huge offensive rebound. Taylor was then fouled before sinking two free throws go give Creek Wood the 41-39 win.

Bri Burgess led Creek Wood with 14 points followed by Taylor with 11. The Lady Red Hawks improved to 5-2 and will finish out the week with home games against McEwen (Thursday) and Hickman County (Friday).

Red Hawks 82 - Stewart County 77
Creek Wood recovered from a 16-point halftime deficit to pick up the win at Stewart County on Tuesday night, 82-77.

The two teams combined for 55 first quarter points, but that's when things went south for the Red Hawks. Creek Wood cooled off and Stewart County ended the second quarter with a 12-2 run to take a 50-34 lead at the half.

Creek Wood started the third quarter with an 11-0 run of its own to cut the margin to five, 50-45, and it was game on for the rest of the night.

The Red Hawks took the lead (68-67) early in the fourth quarter when Tyler Neely buried a 3-pointer. With the score knotted at 75-75, Raekwonn Nesbitt gave Creek Wood the lead for good after sinking the front end of a one-and-one. Fifteen seconds later Nesbitt would hit two free throws to give the Red Hawks a 78-75 lead with :51 remaining. Creek Wood ended the night with Neely and Nesbitt sinking two free throws each. In the games final minute Creek Wood sank 7 of 8 shots from the line.

Creek Wood evened its record at 3-3 on the season. Nesbitt finished the night with 29 points and Neely added 16. The Red Hawks will be at home on Thursday and Friday to face McEwen and Hickman County.
